designing a home office: old rug, new rug

When we first bought this house, it had wall to wall brown carpet. It smelled like cigarette smoke, pets, and funk. I hated it.

Three years ago, we finally had new wood flooring installed. We chose a wide plank warm gray wood floor throughout the main level of the house. It is incredibly durable, resistant to dog scratches, and warm under our feet in the winter.

If I had it to do over again, I might have chosen a slightly different color, but I absolutely love having a unified floor throughout the house.

Not my office, but a good representation of the flooring.

So, my original office rug was, you guessed it, another something gray. Again from World Market and again discontinued, here’s what I’ve been working with.

So, in searching for a new rug, I was looking for something 1) not gray and 2) a stronger pattern. I’m optimistic I found it in this new rug:

No guarantees it’ll be the right fit, but I’m hopeful that this will add a little more personality to my home office. It should be arriving later this week, so more to come!
