designing a home office: the paint colors
Like many others, my last day in my work office was March 13. I brought my laptop, docking station, and some cords home with me that Friday afternoon. I spent a few minutes on Monday morning getting myself situated. By Monday afternoon, I made plans to go into the office and pick up my two computer monitors. Since then, I’ve only been to my office a handful of times to pick up a few times.
I lived with my baby pink walls for a while. I love pink, so it didn’t seem like too much of a stretch. But after a few months, I started to find it cloying…
My initial thought was to paint the room a dark green. I tried out a couple of colors using Samplize - and I’m glad I did. My initial color choice was Green Bay by Benjamin Moore. When I got the sample, I realized it was an insane choice for my office - too dark and not the right tone. This is why it is so important to see the color in the actual room - I’d still choose this color if I were only shopping online.
Because this house has terrible indoor lighting, I opted for Benjamin Moore White Dove on three of the walls, with a green accent wall. White Dove is the trim color I use throughout our house. It is a creamy white without being stark white. It reads more yellow on the screen. I chose Bunker Hill Green, which is much more in line with what I wanted. Compared to Green Bay, it is so much lighter and less blue.
The window trim, baseboards, and door are all painted White Dove. Three of the four walls, as well as the closet, are also White Dove. One wall is painted Bunker Hill Green. I’m content with the amount of light that the three white walls give off, though I’d really like to paint the ceiling to see if it adds some additional light. The green accent wall is just right - dramatic, colorful, and fun.
